** NB (i)   This is the first and last time I will ever refer to a footballer or manager as “The King”, “God”, “Sir”, or any other such feudal nonsense, but tonight I’m just one of the happy, dancing massess, mindless in my humble joy. I even thought about thanking Liverpool’s Yank owners for their beneficence, but steady on, that would be a bit too feudal even for such a joyous day.

**** NB (ii)  Retrospective editing? Who, me?
